     Not much effect of pokkah boeng disease in district- DCO

    Pokkah Boeng disease 

     Saharanpur: Pokkah boeng disease in sugarcane crop affects production during rainy season and sugar production also decreases.  In such a situation, it is necessary that farmers should be careful. In view of this, District Cane Officer Sushil Kumar said that Pokkah Boeng disease in sugarcane is caused by fungus.  The symptoms of its disease are especially visible in July, August and September.  The soft leaves of the top of the plant are affected by this disease wither and turn black and the upper part rots and falls.  The green leaves starts ending, due to which the growth of the plant stops.In the last stage of the disease, the plant dries up and the cane tip dies.

     He informed, "Farmers need to be alert as soon as the symptoms of Pokkah Boeng disease appear.  Spray Carbendazim Copperoxychloride @ 2 gm medicine per liter of water in the affected crop.  Do not use urea much during this time.  Do not put it after 10th July at all.  Use only balanced fertilizer after sowing. There is not much effect of pokkah boeng disease in the district, still medicines are available in the godowns in the district for the convenience of the farmers, so that they can treat the disease and can get more information by contacting sugarcane supervisor"
