Most of the country's population lives in villages and  villagers are involved in agriculture and animal husbandry. But in today's era of urbanization, most of the youth are moving away from agriculture.  They are giving more importance to doing jobs in cities instead of working in agriculture after studying.  In such a situation, Pankaj Tyagi, a 12th pass young farmer, has doubled his income by cultivating banana along with sugarcane.

Farmer Pankaj Tyagi told that he has sown sugarcane in 15 bighas by trench method and single bud method and has planted 1500 banana plants along with it.  For the second time, he has done intercropping and earned twice as much from sugarcane as from banana cultivation.  He told that for small farmers, the crop of banana along with sugarcane is a profitable deal.  Farmer can take advantage of 2.5 lakh to 3 lakh per acre.  The advantage of sowing banana along with sugarcane is that sugarcane protects banana plants from frost in December and January and helps in more production.
