Saharanpur. The animal husbandry department is alert about Lumpy disease in animals. According to Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Rajiv Kumar Saxena, LSD infection in cattle has been received in some districts of Purvanchal, Madhyanchal and Bundelkhand of the state. For which an action plan was prepared for disease prevention in Saharanpur district. Till now, no animal suffering from Lumpi disease has been found in the entire division. Still, he has appealed to the public to report the nearest veterinary hospital if they see any cow suffering from this disease.
He told that the symptoms of Lumpy disease in animals include high fever along with watery discharge from eyes and nose, swelling on the legs and throat blanket and stiffness in the entire body. Animals suffer from insect bites, low milk production in milch cows, weight loss in animals, physical weakness etc. In such a situation, cattle owners need to be alert so that they can be treated in time. It is a viral disease for which there is no proper recommended treatment. Symptomatic treatment can be done in consultation with the doctor.
He said, "In case of fever, antipyretic (such as paracetamol) should be used. In case of swelling and skin disease, medicines should be taken in consultation with the veterinarian and to prevent secondary bacterial infection, antibiotics (anaerocin and streptopenin celine) should be used for 3-5 days.To protect the wounds from flies, it is beneficial to apply neem leaves, henna leaves, garlic, turmeric powder mixed with coconut or sesame oil on the wounds."
He cautioned cattle farmers to separate affected animals from healthy animals. Restrict the movement of animals affected by the disease from common sources for animals to drink water. Do not send animals for communal grazing, also do not send animals to animal fairs and exhibitions, nor use insecticides to avoid the appearance of affected flat lumps, abortion in pregnant animals. Do not throw dead animal bodies in the open, dispose of them scientifically and bury the animal in a deep pit. Do proper disinfection of the animal shed and surrounding areas by spraying phenyl etc. A person taking care of sick animals should also stay away from the enclosure of healthy animals.
